Working Human Eye

Explore how human vision works using optical models that demonstrate image formation, focusing, and corrective lenses.

Educational overview

About this lab

Optical models make it possible to investigate how lenses bend light and bring an image into focus. Students connect observations from a model to the roles of the cornea, lens, and retina, while considering how corrective lenses change the path of light. A model simplifies the complexity of a living eye.

What students explore

  • Light refraction
  • Image formation
  • Focusing
  • Corrective lenses
  • Vision

Taking part

This activity is part of the YMIC library. When it is offered, detailed instructions and any internal materials are shared through Google Classroom. Participation is optional.
