Miniature Heart Pump

Investigate how the heart pumps blood by creating a simple working model of fluid movement and circulation.

Educational overview

About this lab

Students use a simple pump model to explore how pressure moves fluid and how one-way flow can be maintained. They connect the model to heart chambers, valves, and circulation, then consider which features of the real heart the model does and does not represent.

What students explore

  • Pressure differences
  • One-way flow
  • Heart chambers
  • Circulation
  • Model limitations

Taking part

This activity is part of the YMIC library. When it is offered, detailed instructions and any internal materials are shared through Google Classroom. Participation is optional.
