Founded YMIC in 2026A student-led club created to make medicine and healthcare more approachable, practical, and open to exploration.
The Yale Medical Innovation Club was founded in 2026 by Abhijot Gill, a student at Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford, British Columbia.
YMIC was created to give students more opportunities to explore medicine and healthcare outside regular classroom lessons. With support from the school's teacher advisor, the club developed into a school-approved organization focused on medical learning, hands-on projects, research, and career exploration.
The club is designed for students with different interests and experience levels, including those who are still deciding whether healthcare is a career they want to pursue.
Medicine covers far more than what students usually have the chance to study in school. YMIC provides opportunities to explore areas such as anatomy, surgery, medical technology, research, and healthcare careers through activities that are practical and approachable.
The goal is to help students learn about these fields, work with others, and develop a better understanding of what studying or working in healthcare can involve.

The YMIC logo combines recognizable elements of medicine and science. The central monogram reflects medical learning, while the staff and serpent are traditional symbols associated with healthcare.
The heartbeat lines reference human physiology, and the circular design brings the different elements together. Its navy, steel-blue, and burgundy colours form the visual identity used throughout the club.

Meetings may include short medical discussions, educational questions, activity previews, and highlights from science learning resources. Projects, labs, and competitions offer optional opportunities for deeper participation.
Students are not required to complete every project. Actual participation and verified contributions matter more than simply claiming membership. Detailed assignments and announcements stay in Google Classroom.
YMIC is considering private year-end achievement reports that record verified project contributions, lab attendance, competition participation, and areas of learning. This proposed approach is subject to approval by school leadership and the Teacher Advisor.
These reports would not be school transcripts, university certifications, or clinical qualifications. Student records will remain private.
